To discuss cutting down on TV like I'm the lumberjack and the TV is the wood

I am just now starting to get back into the swing of things after a crazy couple of weekends away. So, I apologize if I haven't been leaving comments on your blogs/not returning your calls/forgetting your birthday/leaving my fly down... things should be better now.

One by-product (opposed to bi-product, who likes girls and boys) of this recently is that I have barely watched any television. Tonight was the first time I watched any primetime TV at all, and even that was Tivo'd stuff. The truth is, I didn't really miss not watching TV. In fact, I think I'd be better off if I cut down some of my TV watching anyway... perhaps to a cycle of 10 shows that are always worth watching (based on what's on right now).
For any other shows, I won't make serious attempts to catch them, and instead use that time to return calls, zip up my fly, read books, or write letters to Capricorn about how her eyes are like the stars or something totally dreamy like that.
Hmmm.
I think this could be doable.

In no particular order:
1) The Office... Even when it's uneven, it's still better than most.
2) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia... They had an episode about kidnapping a newspaper reporter last week. Needless to say, it was amazing. I've never seen one show tackle so many taboo subjects with reckless abandon- racism, religion, alcoholism, cannibalism- you name it. And Danny DeVito is amazing on it...trust me... especially when he runs an illegal gambling ring in which people bet eyeballs and fingers.
3) How I Met Your Mother...One of the few shows that focuses directly on 20somethings and actually sounds like 20somethings.
4) House... Well, I have to have at least one good drama, even if they violate every ethical code a doctor can have in every episode.
5) America's Next Top Model... I have to have at least one trashy show, right? Tyra is way out of control this year. Seriously. Another Play by Play of the show may be in the works.
6) Big Bang Theory... Not enough people watch this show, even though it's always funny and intellectual. Plus, Penny is hot.
7) Saturday Night Live... Because it's funny again..."Hi goat. Say hey to your motha for me."
8) Heroes... I need at least one of those trendy shows. I don't watch "Lost" and never caught on to "Mad Men," and missed the boat on "I Love Lucy."
9) Grey's Anatomy... Not because it's truly good TV, but because I've seen too many episodes and need to know what's going on... And because I hope they kill off Meredith. All the time. Like, kill her. So she can stop whining about difficult her life is when she's a doctor and is dating McDreamy. And so I don't have to keep imagining her face as God's template for making squirrels and chipmunks.
10) This one is up to you. What would you add to the list?

Homie, you picked three of the only four shows I watch- HIMYM, Big Bang, and House (which I love but only catch occasionally). If you had Law and Order on there, you would have won a stuffed animal.

Ooh.... if it were me i'd add one of the following three:

1. Law and Order SVU - because there is no better sexual tension on TV than between Olivia and Elliot

2. NCIS - ok, maybe the sexual tension between DiNozzo and David is better. Plus, DiNozzo is cute and funny....

3. Supernatural - because although its not the best writing, and the subject matter isnt always this side of believable, they ARE the prettiest boys on TV....

Oh! We were almost nine for nine, but you had to throw in Grey's Anatomy at the end. I guess you're not my soul mate after all. Then again, I have no idea who you are; my Google alert for It's Always Sunny sent me here. :)

Other great shows that you may or may not be watching: Psych, Chuck, 30 Rock, Supernatural, Pushing Daisies, Dexter, Ugly Betty, The Amazing Race, and My Name Is Earl.

It's too hard to choose just ten. Don't abandon TV! Be its slave!

Boston Legal, because William Shatner is Denny Crane. God I love him...he is so funny. From what I've read on your blog so far, you would appreciate the satire of that show, as well as all of the sterotypes they attempt to break. Last season though...boo hoo. Monday, 10 p.m. ABC. PS. I'd love to see the Meridith Gray character extinquished in grand fashion. She whines more than Caliou...but I'm sure you are not watching that. LOL

Yes on Proposition "America's Next Top Model play-by-play" please. :)

First off, kiiiinda hate ya for the title. It'll pass.

I might've mentioned this before, but you should at least check out "Life". (http://www.nbc.com/Life/)

It's a murder-unit cop show... but different. They have a lighter take on solving things than, say, CSI or Law&Order (not knocking, just contrasting).

The main guy, Charlie, sortof reminds me of you and I'm not sure why, except that he's extremely sarcastic and amusing...he doesn't look like Michael Phelps. I think his partner, Dani aka. "Reese", would also qualify as "hot". The character development behind the oddly-different solving of each case is what keeps me watching it.

(This shall serve as 'Exhibit A' of why I do not write plot synopses for a living.)

Bravo, Andy Bobby Shaw. Bravo. Welcome to the other side. I can't even tell you how many shows I've heard of but have no idea what they're about or never seen an episode. And ya know? I've never missed it. I'm not sure if the 60-hour work week has anything to do with this....

PS, the 60-hour could be turning into more in the near future. I'm one of the top three candidates for a weekend news position at one of our top-ranking radio stations. Cross your fingers.

you need at least one cartoon. My vote is for family guy (which makes soup come out of my nose on a regular basis, even when i'm not eating any) or Robot Chicken cause it's the most random mess I've ever seen and therefore I adore it.

I agree with amy xxoo on SVU. If I could only watch one tv show it would be a toss up between SVU and dancing with the Stars. I might go for SVU, because they have reruns. I also watch Paranormal State on A&E, but then I end up sitting on my bed jumping everytime I hear any little noise.

um hello? Eli Stone needs to be on that list! and take off Grey's Anatomy. That show makes me want to stab a fork in my eye!

You've listed some of my faves (HIMYM, The Office).

Here are the shows your list is missing:

30 Rock
Chuck (seriously, it's a GOOD show!)
Worst Week (new this year and totally hilarious)
CSI (Vegas the original, not all the other cities trying to jump on the bandwagon)
The Amazing Race (I've been watching it since Season 1, and it's good every year.)

I'm with you on Heroes, House and Grey's Anatomy. I like to watch The UFC (cause those boys are ridiculous and overloaded with testosterone...which is what you might need on this page...Top Model Man) I LOVE Psych..it's hilarious and I started watching that new one with Christian Slater..My Own Worst Enemy. I really like that one.

Bex- I do like some Law and Order, but I catch it on reruns
Amy- Mariska is a hot hot lady. I am concerned, though, that your recommendations stem from me liking the "prettiest boys"
Kelly- Glad Google alert has my back.
Trtle- If Meredith died, it would be a sweet, sweet episode. Especially if it happened every episode, like on South Park.
Herding- I'll see what I can do.
Rainbow- I'll check that out
Spiral- Even my toes are crossed.
Finger- Family Guy is regularly funny, but I don't feel like I need to watch the new ones every week. The reruns are just as good.
Sam- So you like to watch a show that makes you freak out all the time? Excellent.
Katie- Wasn't Katie Holmes just on Eli? Was she good?
KK- I do like 30 Rock, although it can be uneven. Worst Week's not bad, but it seems like they tried to turn Meet the Parents into a tv show.
Sheila- I do watch football every Sunday. Does that count?

Wow... I've got 1, 2, 3 and 9. I agree about killing Meredith, I think I just got some flair about that on facebook... anyway, I would add
10) Biggest Loser. It's some good reality tv and I really prefer to watch it while eating Oreos! Even more fun!

The Wire. Duh.

And be nice to Meredith. Her real life husband is nice!

Although reruns of Law and Order SVU are amazing I must admit I enjoy the current seasons storyline... and yes there is one.

One show you don't have on here which is a personal favorite of mine is Brothers and Sisters. However I have come to the conclusion that I only love it because I have always wanted a big family to argue with :)
