To discuss Missed Connections and New Songs

I'm so glad you all reinforced the fact that I'm an idiot for not talking to that woman yesterday. Your support is overwhelming.
I did go back today around the same time on the off chance she'd be there again-- of course, she wasn't, leaving no one to wipe away the bitter tears of lost opportunity.
I could always do the Craigslist "Missed Connections" page, which gives starcrossed lovers a chance to find someone they met briefly.
A sample of guys seeking girls:
"You are Blonde and extremely good looking. You have a daughter on the soccer team...10-12 (i think) you are awesome."
"I'm not going to post her last name here...I don't think that's appropriate, but she knows who she is. She's married these days and so am I. She's just been on my mind lately, don't know why. Hopefully, all is well with her. And if its you, I'm sorry for the way things turned out with us. Maybe, I'll stop dreaming about you now. The sad thing is they're not even kinky dreams, just weird ones."

To the first dude- Are you questioning her daughter's age, or her awesomeness?
To the second dude-- The sad thing is you are dreaming about a married woman. You should stop dreaming about her immediately.
-------------
So I went on iTunes yesterday and bought a bunch of music, which I will share my thoughts on below. ITunes is an interesting experience: I looked at their Top 100 Songs and realized that I didn't like or know most of them. Music is a young person's game. I am no longer a young person, no matter how much Lil' Wayne I blast asking girls to li-li-li-li-lick me like a lollipop (which is dangerous anyway, because if they confuse it for a Tootsie Roll Pop, they will try to bite through to the candy middle). Now, there are some I like, but the theme here is that this used to be the exact type of music I listened to, and, as you'll see looking at what I actually got, my tastes have changed a lot.
Here's the Top 10:
1. So What, Pink Pink is still making music? I remember "There You Go," way back in 2000, back when she was all R&B and attitude. Lately, she's singing rock songs about guys and their pleasuring hands. Times have changed.
2. Love Story, Taylor Swift How old is she? 16? 17? Am I old enough to be her dad?
3. Whatever You Like, T.I. No, T.I., I'll let YOU have whatever you like. It's on me...up to $5.
4. Disturbia, Rihanna When was the last time Rihanna didn't have a Top 10 song? And how did she carve out a career after Pon the Freakin' Replay?!
5. Hot N Cold, Katy Perry Katy, it's no wonder your boy is hot and cold on you. You are kissing girls behind his back. I guess your boyfriend does mind it.
6. Paper Planes, M.I.A. Finally a song that's full of coolness. I had this song before Pineapple Express came out, I swear.
7. American Boy, Estelle I discovered this smooth song through So You Think You Can Dance. She's got a cool voice. Too bad Kanye West does a guest spot. It's hard to fit the song and his ego into my 40 GB iPod.
8. I'm Yours, Jason Mraz I'm not a 17-year-old girl, so I don't get him.
9. Crush, David Archugladiwonamericanidol Archuleta jumped the shark when he sang Chris Brown's "With You." It was completely awkward, like watching a teenager go through puberty in 4:04.
10. Swagga Like Us, Jay-Z and posse Jigga man was a lot better before he started dating Beyonce, back when he did "Hard Knock Life" and "Jigga What, Jigga Who."

Ok, and on to what I actually got...
1. Sometime Around Midnight, The Airborne Toxic Event. Found this song on Ethel, on my XM radio. XM radio is one of man's best inventions.
2. Since You've Been Gone, Day 26 - From Making the Band. I can't give Danity Kane all my MTB love. By the way, this week's episode was as trashy as ever.
3. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Deep Blue Something - What a good song. You are singing it in your head right now. I know it.

4. Love Remains the Same, Gavin Stefani Rossdale - Bush used to be such a great band-- Mouth, Glycerine-- then Gavin starts dating Gwen and it goes downhill. I sense a trend.
5. Better in Time, Leona Lewis - Not normally my type of fare, but she has such a good voice.
6-8. Hammerhead, You're Gonna Go Far Kid, Fix You, all by The Offspring - The Offspring's Americana was one of the best albums of the 90s that nobody talks about- for a rock/punk band, they have such good harmony. This is all off their latest album.
9-10. L.E.S. Aristes and Creator, by Santogold - I think both songs have been used in commercials. Anyway, she sounds like a mix between M.I.A. and Nelly Furtado. Creator has one of the best beats I've heard in a long time.
11. Love is Noise, The Verve - Who thought they'd only end up with Bittersweet Symphony? I know I did. I'm a sucker for British rock, so this was a no-brainer.

I'm open to suggestions to add one more song. Nothing too obvious, but nothing so obscure that I have to go to a back alley record store to find it.
Commence suggestions...

"Mexican Wine"-- Fountains of Wayne

It makes no sense but you'll sing it anyway. Good driving with the windows down song.

The whole music scene makes me feel old. I don't get/can't stand Lil' Wayne at all, and I grew up on hip hop. Also, I recommend anything off of M.I.A.'s first disc over her second disc, except maybe XR2. That song makes me convulse, but in the good way. Skates is interesting if you're into weird female music (I'm not sure she's on iTunes or not, though), and Chromeo's good if you like 80s-sounding funk/dance music.

On topic:
Pop music thing makes me feel old too, joshlos. Katy Perry's kissing a girl song just makes me think of that old 90's one that was better & smarter, I think it was in reality Bites? Jill something... But I am into hip-hop in a big way (weird for a white Aussie girl, I know, but whatevs), and even though Weezy is clearly cracked out like 115% of the time, I still pretty much like most of his songs/remixes.

Off topic:
You guys, if you like M.I.A., check out this sweet remix she did of a Wilcannia Mob song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvNBfXprgT8

(Background: WM is a group of young indigenous Australian kids who won a music competition on Aus. national youth radio station with the original song.)

I don't know what's worse. The fact that I am too lazy to download music from iTunes (i have the XM mp3 thingy so I just record them on my radio) or that I have recently recorded every one of the 11 songs you got.

I need to stop reading this blog. You're seeping into my brain.

Seriously though, great music.

Thanks so much for getting "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" lodged into my head.

P.S. Taylor Swift is 18 and from Wyomissing, PA.

i could not live without my ipod, as i commute 60 miles each way to my job in fairfield county (btw - the bar i was supposed to hang out at on tuesday in new haven? cafe nine...)

some of my most recent additions include "chasing pavements" by adele and "standing in the way of control" by the gossip. and i also love "no one else" by natalie walker. (incidentally, i just got that gavin rossdale song too!)

I think its incredibly sad to say that music is a young persons game. Somebody please shoot me if i'm disinterested in music by the time i'm 30 or 40.

Now, as for a suggestion i'd suggest " Be Mine " by Robyn if you want a sweet, sad slice of Swedish electro-pop; " Run " by Gnarls Barkley " for some high energy funkiness and, seeing as you're a fan of Brit rock, download Ryan Adams version of " Wonderwall " by Oasis.

P.S Wow - M.I.A covered Wilcannia Mob ? Weird.

is it weird that my dermatologist gave me a $10 itunes gift certificate today, because I'm getting a particular medication? Or is it weirder that the drug company went ahead and partnered with Apple to CREATE the $10 opportunity, because the drug is for acne, and the main focus group is teens??
Either way, I'm looking forward to crusin' for some songs tonight...

I'm totally singing Breakfast at Tiffany's. Why is that song so good? It doesn't matter what I'm doing, if that song comes on/pops into my head, I start singing out loud. Which was really awkward/awesome that time in the grocery store checkout line...

Those were solid song purchases. Next time you should buy Robin Sparkle's 2 singles. Unless you don't watch HIMYM. In which case, ignore me.

Deep Blue Something's song Breakfast at Tiffany's totally screwed them. For real. Everything else by them sounds like ass.
