To discuss things I have left jilted at the altar of life

Have you ever hit the wall?

No, not that one time with your parents' car.

I mean metaphorically. I'm having one of those experiences this week. I've hit an Internet wall, just as many of you have. Through a series of busy nights, hectic days, travel-filled weekends and dodging overzealous holiday shoppers like Mario bouncing around Bowser, I haven't had much time to do any blogging this week. Read them, write them, laugh at them, light them on fire, whatever.
I feel weird for feeling ashamed at this, like not putting spare change in the Salvation Army kettle when the dude is ringing the bell with vigor in your direction. There's no obligation, but you feel like you're spitting on baby Jesus if you don't at least throw a Sacagawea dollar in or something.
Because I have so much fun writing for this blog and reading your comments in which you question my sexuality, sanity and ability to use proper grammar, I'll get over the proverbial hump on this, probably by early next week.
That's a welcome change from my past behavior. I am normally the king of "get passionate about something for a couple months and then quit abruptly." I have hobby ADD.
Here's a (UPDATED!) list of things in my life I have, at some point, taken an interest in only to suddenly and inexplicably abandon after a short time like Julie Roberts' fiances in "Runaway Bride":
  • Golf
  • Playing the piano
  • Gymnastics
  • Drawing
  • Richard Gere (No, wait, that was just Julia)
  • Poetry
  • Exercising
  • Eating healthy
  • Politics
  • The National Hockey League
  • The Bible
  • The Bible again, after getting tired of reading about begatting in Numbers and Deuteronomy
  • The Bible a third time, but only the New Testament after Romans left me feeling like I've sinned in every way possible
  • Car maintenance
  • Learning Spanish
  • Going to graduate school
  • Feeling guilt at eating an entire container of Keebler ELF Fudge cookies
  • Celebrating the real meaning behind Christmas
  • Celebrating the real meaning behind Easter
  • Cycling
  • Crystal meth (No, wait. That was Crystal Light iced tea.)
  • Running
  • Staying in touch with people
  • Writing music
  • Budgeting
  • Updated:
  • Reading Les Miserables
  • Reading, period
  • Recycling more
  • Yoga
  • MySpace
  • AIM
What about you?

I'll try to be better next week. I really will.

Umm, everything?

No, not really. But my list includes:

-jogging (love the concept, hate the activity)

-budgeting (yeah, I totally have an extra $1000 kicking around to do my entire right arm in a sleeve)

-going vegan (wait, so it involves soy ice cream? Ick.)

-cooking real food

-Greek (I can still say about ten things and read about thirty, but few of them have any bearing on my actual life. Especially since I rarely speak Greek to anyone.)

-losing the potty mouth (it would be like losing a part of my soul!)

-The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand (I've been reading this sucker for eight years and I'm only on, like, page 20.)

Oh, I just don't start things in the first place, that way I can't give up on them.

I make lots of plans to start doing things and then decide not to before I get around to actually starting.

Yeah..Grad school. That was a short-lived, but expensive hobby for me too.

There was also an ill-advised bout with volunteering. It turns out I don't have the empathy gene necessary to pull that off.

story of my life....i like to think of myself as being extremely adaptable.

my list would include:

- staying on a budget (highly overrated, i'm sure)
- eating organically
- not buying clothes (until i lose 10 lbs, which would be another thing i gave up on...)
- working out 6 days a week (ha)
- painting/scrapbooking/drawing/photography
- decorating the apartment

and the list could go on...

I've been most unsuccessful at not hating Andy. (Oh burn)

Every year, I get really excited and decide that I'm going to make crafts to enter in the fair and then collect my prize money and sell the items at craft shows. Then the fair rolls around and nothing is made. I also got excited in cleaning once. So much so that one of my co-workers asked me if I was pregnant (apparently, I seemed like I was nesting) but thankfully, that went away.

yeah graduate school didn't work too well for me either.

but I have never felt any guilt after eating a whole box of cookies. ;)

I'm thinking it's just that time of year...I've felt the same way you have all week. But don't disappear--you're too hilarious to vanish from my Reader!

I'm the same way. I used to be an avid MySpace and Facebooker. Now I check them about 2 times a week. It just gets boring after a while.

Snort..snort..about the baby Jesus spitting comment. Totally how I feel.

And unfortunately I have no time on my hands because of dear child keeping me busy, to start half projects.

I can't believe how long I've been able to maintain my blog....

You gave up on golf AND yoga ? My father and I are not pleased - nobody gives up on golf or yoga!

As for things i've totally gotten passionate about and then, you know, kind of got unpassionae about:

- gymnastics when i was about 10
- scrapbooking
- Yummy Noodles ( great takeout that i was obsessed with )
- getting a manicure every week ( ha, like i'm made of money )

Umm...how about I tell you the things that I actually stuck with?

Being a vegetarian.

Blogging.

The rest was all left at the wayside without shame or regret.

Well, maybe a little. That time I tried being a parent for a week or two didn't work out. I wonder what happened to that kid.

Oh I am a total quitter too. If I am not immediately good at something, I pretty much stop.

How about any exercise program I've ever attempted?

How about every diet I've ever started?

How about every kind of needlepoint project ever begun?

How about the 6 unfinished scrapbooks sitting upstairs gathering dust?

How about my love affair with Facebook that abruptly ended when I discovered blogging?

How about tennis lessons/piano lessons/dance lessons/aerobics lessons/writing lessons -- all started and quit after the first 3 classes?

How about my million attempts to become a real cook and make new dishes every week?

How about my yearly resolve to eat 3 to 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day?

The list could go on and on and I think you just gave me my upcoming blog post. Of course I will link to yours as my inspiration!

And as far as the blogging goes, just do what you what makes you happy and interested so you don't quit it too!

Golfing... eh.

Playing the piano... whatever.

Gymnastics... no prob--- wait, back up cowboy! Gymnastics? I'm going to need to see a photo of you dancing around with a ribbon or pommeling a horse or something.

Nice how you tried to slip that one in that long list of yours, but I totally spotted it. And, as a bonus, photo posts are way easier to create. So, get posting!

Bad move abandoning "Les Miserables." It's my favorite book ever, ever, ever. Fantastic story. Bloody brilliant. And don't even get me started on the musical or I'll start cyring.

I used to suck at keeping up with hobbies, but lately I think with old age comes better follow through. Blogging is still fairly new though...we'll see.

P.S. After reading anything written by Paul in the NT I felt ashamed to be a woman...thats when I gave that up.

Now that my boss ripped me a new one for going online at work I can't read and comment on as many blogs. I feel so guilty about it, and I know I am missing out on so much. But I also need my job.

I tend to start a book and if I put it down for a couple of days then forget it. A few days turns into a month then when I pick it up again I have no idea what happened so far.

I am trying to get my crap together too as well as make a little time for myself.

I am going to start... (I mean try to start) walking on my treadclimber more *snicker*.

It's a busy time for everyone so don't feel guilty.

Aww, Andy, I feel so flattered that you linked to ME as an example of someone who is totally sucking at the blogging game of life. :p
