To discuss succumbing to movie franchise peer pressure

True story:

I have never seen any Harry Potter movie (or read the books, but let's not pretend any of us read books regularly).

This matter has come up the past two weekends, first when I was admonished by my friend Cadence, and then again this past weekend by Capricorn.

It should be noted Capricorn has never seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies, but she said those look dorky, so that ended that. But Capricorn has decided it's time to fix my "problem" by making me watch all the Harry Potter movies in a marathon one upcoming Saturday.

As she put it:

"They made a freakin' theme park for Harry Potter!"

I know precious little about Harry Potter. There's magic involved. Alan Rickman is in there somewhere. I think the scary looking troll-like guy from "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" is in them. There are hogwarts involved, but evidently it's not sexually contagious. Harry Potter is still allowed to be in high school even if he's 32. Guys want to have sex with that Emma girl but pretended they didn't until she was legal.

I suppose it's only fair I watch them. I do try to keep up on pop culture for the blog, even if it's not up my alley.* But just because everyone else has seen them doesn't mean I have to watch them. I might even enjoy them, but that's beside the point.

* That's why I watched Twilight. Yep. That's the reason. Won't even try to say that's the reason I watched Jennifer's Body recently - that was for Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. Both let me down. The most entertaining part of that movie was watching Adam Brody's insatiable appetite for guyliner.

I do think everyone has that certain movie franchise they have never seen and at this point are actively trying not to see. I've got a few, from Harry Potter to any Shrek past the first one. I wish I could say the same about the "Austin Powers" movies ... sadly, I can't.

Please tell me you have one, too, so I don't feel alone in this - vote in the poll on the right side. Capricorn, for instance, hasn't seen any of the first three "Die Hard" movies. Perhaps you've never seen any "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies ... or any "Muppet" movie.

P.S. If you tell me you haven't seen a "Muppet" movie I will hold a gun to your head and force feed Fozzie to you. You need to watch the Muppets not only visiting Manhattan, but TAKING THAT BITCH. Also, there are catchy songs and you will cry during the wedding. Kthanks.

Mine is Lord of the Rings. Dude, I refuse to even GLANCE IN THAT DIRECTION.
So far, I am the only one who has voted on the poll, btw.

Oh, and random but true: I was on the phone with my sister the other day (she was the one who turned me onto your blog, but she doesn't comment so you'd have no clue who she was) and we were talking about your, erm, sexuality and she totally thought you were gay. And I totally thought you weren't (and was right!) and that Capricorn was your girlfriend? Am I right there, too?

I have never and really don't plan to ever watch the Harry Potter movies or read the books. I was also a hold out on Titanic for a long time too. My friends all went to see it 800 times and I didn't bother watching it til my g-ma bought it on VHS. Aren't there 7 movies? Won't that be like 20 hours?

Wow, turns out I've seen barely any of the movies in your poll, and don't intend to. Another big no for me: the Rocky movies.

I also don't think I've ever seen a Muppet movie, but not because I'm opposed. I just haven't happened to. However, I feel about the Back To The Future trilogy the way you feel about the Muppets. If anyone hasn't seen 'em, I don't even want to hear about it.

Oh, I'm so very very happy!! Maybe next you want to read the books. I made Brian start doing that, and he's on the 5th one now. And he loves it. And now we can all engage in lovely Harry Potter banter regularly. Perhaps the 4 of us can visit the theme park. Or have our own HP dinner party where we dress up like the characters! Or buy the wii game and learn how to cast spells!!

...too much? I'm making you regret it, aren't I? Subtlety is not my thing.

I haven't seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies. Actually, I have....but I was so bored, I forgot it right after. As for Harry Potter, I adore the series, but much more in book form than in movie form.

My thing is "Star Wars." I've never seen any of them and now it's kind of a badge of honor when people look at me incredulously. Of course, reading through the list people posted, I haven't seen most of them: "Lord of the Rings," "Rocky" and "Titantic." At this rate, it may just be easier to list the movies I HAVE seen!

I haven't seen the Harry Potter series either. I felt I was too old for such young children.

For the record, the Great Muppet Caper is the best Muppet movie out of all of them!

I've never seen Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings and I have no desire to do so. They look lame.

Honestly they seem nerdy to me. Like star wars nerds and trekkies.

No thanks.

For me, its " Star Wars " - i saw 20 minutes of one of them once and it was boring as batshit, so i flat out refuse to even bother with the rest. Also, if Capricorn is going to make you watch " harry Potter " ( which , by the way, are muchly good ) then its only fair that she sit down and watch the awesome-ness that is LOTR.
P.S The Muppets? i still have a copy of " The Muppet Movie " that my mum taped for me on VHS back in the late 80's...

Amy just stole the first five words of my comment from me - thief!!!

I actually did TRY to watch "Star Wars" about five years ago, purely because I got such looks of outrage from friends and exes alike when I said I had never saw them and had no desire to. It came on the tv and I watched for about 15 mins . . . could not work out what the heck was going on, and couldn't really care less. So I gave up and put on Clueless instead.

Say it ain't so!!!! You've not read the Harry Potter books? They are FREAKING AWESOME!! Much better than the movies! You MUST READ THEM!

I will never see any of the Saw movies or the Halloween movies (or let's be honest, basically any horror movies).

I don't care for Harry Potter, I think it's average at best, in terms of kids/young adult books. I love many other nerdy things though and also read many very average books so I won't judge.
