To discuss a review of Toy Story 3

I finally had a night yesterday with no musical or musical practice. So what did I do?

I did what I had been waiting to do for weeks.

I wrestled a bear in a cage match went to see Toy Story 3.

You have to understand, I grew up with Toy Story, which came out when I was 12. If I had it my way, and Burger King has already promised me that so it's basically a lock, no child under the age of, say, 18 would be allowed to see Toy Story 3, at least until they've seen the first two.

That's like the idiots who listened to Green Day's "American Idiot" and thought "Dude, Green Day is such a great new band." Uh, "Dookie," anyone? "Basketcase?" Nothing?

I had a Woody doll when I was a kid, while my brother had Buzz Lightyear. It's somewhat sad that it took a movie studio to come up with the idea to make toys like that, but man, they are perfect.

Buzz played to our dreams of space adventure, flying and shooting things with lasers. Woody warned us about bioterrorism - "Somebody poisoned the waterhole"- and was never afraid to pick favorites among his staff - "You're my favorite deputy."

So I was understandably filled with glee* when Toy Story 3 came out, and in 3D no less, as movie producers are bound by law to release everything in 3D.

* Not Fox's "Glee." Then I'd be singing and dancing and looking too old to possibly be a high school underclassman.

Thoughts on Toy Story 3 (with some spoilers, but c'mon, it won't ruin anything for you):

• I am now considering writing my name (also Andy, which is another reason I love these movies) on the bottom of my dog's paw, as this evidently is a good method of invoking a sense of loyalty.
• I'm glad they played up the sexual tension between Buzz and Jessie. But I have to admit I'm not sure how toys get down and dirty, as they lack the necessary parts. Is that weird to think about?
• Ken and Barbie scenes were all funny, but I'm worried Barbie might be bulimic.
• Belle (the new gf) and I loved the new body Mr. Potato Head jury rigged for himself.
• Did Toy Story ever address whether Legos can talk? This needs to be known.
• I used to have a brontasaurus much in the style of Rex, so I've always particularly liked him, and am glad he found love, even if Pixar may have assumed he was into female dinosaurs.
• Nice touch: Having Woody use Google maps, which weren't even invented during the time of the first movie.
• Don't you wonder after watching these movies what items in your house talk when you leave? And what do they say? "Andy never uses me anymore," my toaster oven says. "Oh yeah? Well Andy doesn't even know I exist. He sucks!" my vacuum retorts.
• The 3D animation was actually worth the extra cost. It looks crazy good. I wish real life was in 3D. Wait, it is? I can take off these silly glasses now? But I thought James Cameron invented 3D!?!
• Fun story- I once shook hands with John Ratzenberger, who voices Hamm. He was in a parade in his Connecticut hometown a few years ago.
• Which is your favorite of the three movies? I will probably always love the original the most out of respect, but this one at least had all the charm plus some nice new twists. That moment when all the toys grab hands/paws awaiting their doom, well that's just touching.
• Speaking of that, I didn't cry, but I did get a little misty eyed in the final scene as the toys get played with one last time. Then I thought of my childhood toys. I owned a My Little Pony and a Cabbage Patch Kid (and a GI Joe, but it's too late to help my case)... maybe it's good I didn't hold onto those.
