To discuss MILF: Blink and you'll miss today's featured artist

It's the last Friday of the month.
What does that mean?
Well, it means a paycheck for some of you, a reason to drink for others and a reminder for still others that they have another weekend of lonely Sex and the City reruns and cosmos ahead of them.
And... MILF. Yes, it's the second edition of Music I Loved Friday. The first one featured Britney Spears...and this time it's:
Blink 182 Dude RanchBlink 182! This is a special shout-out after they announced at the Grammys they were pulling a Backstreet Boys and reuniting. Remember their crazy, semi-nude music videos? Actually, do you remember music videos at all? Please remind me.

Flashback:
It's 1997-98, and, like all high school freshmen*, I'm trying to look cool. Fortunately, I've got a sweet set of... braces and a great pair of... glasses to pull this off. To say I had to beat the ladies off with a stick would be a malicious, bald-faced lie. So I won't say that... Now, back in time:
Can't Hardly Wait
This "Can't Hardly Wait" movie is phenomenal. I have a feeling that Jennifer Love Hewitt has one great career ahead of her. She has a firm head on her boobs.*** I can feel all the teenage angst in this movie, angst I can relate to! I think I'll watch this movie again and again, as if it's comparable to "The Breakfast Club," when clearly, it's not. But what do I know, I'm a teenager.

And this soundtrack is great- Guns N Roses, Third Eye Blind, Missy Elliott ... But who is this other band? Blink One Hundred and Eighty Two? That's a long name. I'm feeling their song, "Dammit"**, though. It's catchy in a "punk rock your mom doesn't know she shouldn't let you listen to" kind of way.
I'm going to have to download this illegally on Napster or some other pirating site that, perhaps some day, will become the downfall of the music industry until the introduction of an as-yet invented iTunes program. Or something like that.

Flash forward a couple years
Can TRL possibly get any better? That Carson Daly has it all- music videos AND Jennifer Love Hewitt! I'm still really liking Blink- "All the Small Things," "Stay Together for the Kids," "The Rock Show," all good stuff... And, hey, they released an album called "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket," which only took me a few weeks to realize that's a euphemism. Now I just hope they don't get too successful and breakupohcraptheydid.

Other Top Played Songs Around Blink 182's early TRL fame ("All the Small Things" era):
* Backstreet Boys
, "Larger than Life"
* Britney Spears, "Crazy"
* Limp Bizkit, "Nookie"
* Kid Rock, "Cowboy"
* 98 Degrees "I Do (Cherish You and Star in Reality TV Shows)"
-------------------------------
*
Let's assume now that everytime I do MILF, you're going to gasp and say "I was, like, 30, by then" or say "I was, like, still a mess of sperm, eggs, and misfortune then."
** I remember being worried about saying the song title because I didn't want to swear. Damn it.
*** I don't think it's an exaggeration to say the movie producers milked Jen Love's sweater puppies for all they were worth... then, she did "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and took cleavage to new heights.

Blink is pretty much the reason I got through high school, started playing guitar, ran around naked at my senior farewell.

To say I'm excited is somewhat of an understatement. You've just given me a post idea ,thanks man.

So given my last post, I'm clearly all over this Blink 182 reunion. I love that you mentioned the Can't Hardly Wait soundtrack. I still pull that out from time to time. It's a quality soundtrack.

While all the Blink 182 video are great, the best one by far is "Josie", a song off of "Dude Ranch", mostly because it stars Alyssa Milano. I saw it and was like "woah, check out the chick from 'Who's the Boss'...Tony Danza would be proud"

I.Loved.Blink182.

Seriously. I remember going on a field trip in Year11 and one guy had brought a guitar. Rather than a traditional campfire singalong it was " All The Small Things"...good times, good times.

Hell i even liked their last, self titled album, with the Robert Smith collaboration. Although " Take Off Your Pants and Jacket " is probably my favourite album...

I am totally loving the MILF, Andy!

I still have a soft spot for Jennifer Love Hewitt. Unfortunately, her boobs didn't take her quite as far as I'm sure we all hoped.

I have the Blink 182 cd at home... I listened to it not long ago... I think it was Adam's Song that cemented my employment in mental health. Dammit, Blink, why couldn't you have inspired me to do something where I make money.

Ooooh I was SUCH a huge Blink fan. I got so excited when I heard they were getting back together!
And Can't Hardly Wait? Probably watched it at least 100 times. I can quote it word for word.
Thanks for the flashback. :)

Dear God this was perfection. OH, those crazy Blinkers... remember "Josie"? I still think that's, like, one of the most romantic songs ever.

J.Lo.Hew irritates me beyond understanding.

Ever since she appeared on Party of Five and uttered the immortal lines "I was out walking. Just... walking. And thinking."

I hate her and her giant egg-shaped head.

I'm not going to lie...I saw Can't Hardly Wait in theaters approximately 36 times. But, that was back in the day when cheap movies were something like 1.50 (It's not really a valid excuse though, is it?)

I am probably way too old for it (what do I mean "probably," I know I am), but I LOVE Can't Hardly Wait. I've always had such a crush on Ethan Embry.

Not only is "Can't Hardly Wait" a great movie - what? it is - but I'm still completely and totally a Blink 182 fan.

Though I don't get the euphemism in "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket." Oh well.

I can hear the lightbulbs clicking on all over blog land. Yes, that's what they meant by Jacket.
And I'm glad all of you are so fond of "Can't Hardly Wait," which also features a quirky appearance by Jenna Elfman in that angel outfit, not to mention Seth Green being a gangsta.

Just got some fannnnnntastic work news (read: not fantastic), so I'll write about it soon. I'm still employed... ish.

You know...my son (who's 13 going on 14 already went through a Blink stage.
Hmmm...must be getting over the stages faster than we thought.
I'll ask him about it and see if he get's nostalgic...lol.

This reminds me of a couple of days ago I had to use my husband's truck and I listened to the music he had playing....
Poison...Bell Biv DeVoe.
Humpty Dance...Digital Underground.
I got a Man...Positive K.

Needless, to say...
I'm still learning new things about my Rock music loving, skull wearing husband...
