It's the last Friday of the month.
What does that mean?
Well, it means I'm moving. Yes, I took today off to move across town, with the aid of my family. But more on that later. Right now, the last Friday means...
... MILF. It's the third time around for Music I Loved Friday. The first one featured Britney Spears, the second one was Blink 182, and this time it's...
Hey, I'm moving, the Fresh Prince is moving, it all makes sense, right? Here's the extended version of the theme song. Do you know alllll the lyrics?
Flashback:
It's the mid-1990s. I'm in middle school, which, retrospectively, is the third ring of hell. But, at least there's good TV on, right? Friends, Mad About You, Seinfeld, Saved by the Bell: The College Years (OK, maybe not that one). Now, back in time:
I wonder if I'll grow chest hair? Hmm. Is that a chest hair? No, no, that's a corn flake. Dang it. I just wish I could be like the cool kids on TV, like Joey from Blossom. Whoa! I wonder if I, too, should tie a flannel shirt around my waist. Or name my firstborn Six.
Wait, what's this show? It's an entire show with black people. Does NBC know this? I thought they were adverse to diversity.
I like it, though. That Fresh Prince dude is totally tubular.* Who knew that a rapper could be such a good actor?**
I wonder if I should start doing the Carlton dance at my school dances. Will the fly honeys like it? I can sing "It's Not Unusual" at the same time. That seems like a guaranteed panty dropper.
Speaking of which, I'm torn between which girl is hotter- Hilary or Ashley. Hilary was fooling around with that Trevor guy for a bit, but lucky for me, he died in that bungee jumping accident. And Ashley, well, her music career didn't take off, despite Will's best attempts at being her manager. I felt bad for her when she was at the record store signing event, and no one showed up.
Actually, Will fails a bunch on this show, doesn't he? He did end up getting Boyz II Men at Nicky's christening, I guess, but most times, he's just a Silly Willy.
Wow, he and Carlton just got ripped a new one for having that pool party when Uncle Phil was gone! He's so upset, he took them to court! Oh, Uncle Phil, chill-ax!
Hey now... this theme song, it's catchy. I think I can remember all the words. That should improve my street cred, because nothing says street cred like white people learning the rap lyrics to a show all about rich black people.
"In West Philadelphia born and raised..."

* Or whatever slang was in at that time. Cowabunga? Neat-o?

One of my favourite episodes was the one where the Banks family goes back to Philly and Will almost stays. OH THE DRAMA!!!
And no shout-out to Tyra working at the Peacock Stop? For shame, Andy!!!
My manager breaks out the Carlton dance in the middle of our shift.... it's even funnier when he puts on a sweater vest! He looks just like him!!
Racquel- I give Tyra way too much blog space already. She doesn't need more of an ego boost.
Ahope- Nice, I like it. You should try it, too
I love the Fresh Prince and I still watch it haha
Don't hate on Big Willy Style's acting. His biceps were great in iRobot.
Uh, I mean his acting skills... yeah.
When he got the Oscar nod for Ali, he did an interview and he goes "Imagine some guy in a coma for like eight years wakes up and goes "The Fresh Prince is getting an Oscar?! What the?""
Oh yes - I definitely remember all the lyrics to that theme song...
"I got in one little fight, and my mom got scared. She said you'll move in with your aunty and uncle in Bel Air..."
And don't forget that classic rap tune that really put the Fresh Prince (and DJ Jazzy Jeff) in the spotlight - "Parent's just don't understand"
"I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said "FRESH" and there was a dice on the mirror..."
Now I'm going to be singing that damn song all day. But thats okay b/c I loved that show! I miss it!
YES. Good show, good looking people (Hello, Will is HOT)... what's not to love?
Now that theme song is stuck in my brain.......
...... I hate you. :P
"Is that a chest hair? Oh, no, no, it's just a corn flake."
Still laughing. What a cute dork you are... I mean WERE... yeah, I meant 'what a cute dork you WERE.' ;)
I was practically raised by The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. I break down and cry with happiness whenever it's on TV these days... I sorely miss the Carlton dance. =P
fresh. super fresh, in fact.
omg. the memories. i wanted all of those baby doll dresses with leggings that karen wore. every single one.
and i would totally wear them with my blossom hats.
So I know I'm not the only one who laughed at this: "Is that a chest hair? No, no, that's a corn flake" but I still had to mention it. ha!
Also great: "Does NBC know this?"
hehe. Thanks for the flashback!
Man!
Even I don't remember that many plots to that many episodes off the top of my head.
A show about RICH BLACK people, huh?
I'm only 1 of those nouns.
Guess which one.
Cracked me up as always!!! :)
You pick the best stuff for your MILF posts Andy!
I loved " The Fresh Prince of Bel Air ".... it played on re-runs here every afternoon up until about 3 or 4 years ago, so it was one of my " man, i have to get this homework done so i can watch ( insert show here ) ..." shows.
Ooh,and i think when i was around 7 or 8 my uncle gave me a cassette yes...a cassette! " of Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince doing - " Ring My Bell ".
Altogether now! " You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell! Ding dong, ding dong! "
How timely as i was just singing this in the car the other day. I am not ashamed. And I know most of the words. Score!
One of my all-time favorite TV shows and one of my all-time favorite TV show theme songs. They're not mutually exclusive, but the Fresh Prince was the ish.
Among the too-many-to-list number of episodes I really loved, I always liked the one where Bell Biv Devoe was shot a music video at the Banks' house, and then the kids have to clean up the house, get new furniture, etc., because Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv were on their way home. Oh, the hilarity! The gimmick of Hilary knowing all the celebrities amused me, too.
How could I not know all the lyrics? Jeez. Loved Fresh Prince (which, by the way, was on in the same hour as Blossom for quite some time, ha).
